Families and schools.
Feedback from the parent I have supported, from the Hertfordshire headteacher who used me as a sounding board, and from the staff team I worked alongside.
Supporting a child with school anxiety
One-to-one support for a family whose daughter experiences emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).
My daughter has EBSA, and this has been incredibly challenging for her and for us as a family. She experiences high levels of anxiety around attending school, which has made day-to-day life very difficult.
Roger has been a huge source of support. He truly understands the worries that come with being a parent in this situation and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in supporting young people. He is kind, understanding, and completely non-judgmental, which made it easy to open up and talk honestly.
He has provided practical strategies that have really helped, and we've been able to talk through ideas together in a way that feels collaborative and reassuring. What stands out most is how much he genuinely cares.
I would highly recommend Roger to any parent going through similar challenges.
A confidential sounding board for leaders
A Hertfordshire primary headteacher on having an experienced former headteacher to think things through with.
“Roger brings calm, honesty and real insight. He understands what it's like to lead — and you feel it the moment you start working with him.”
“Practical, kind and grounded. Roger helped us think clearly about strategy without ever losing sight of the children at the heart of it.”
“An experienced head who genuinely listens. He challenged us where it mattered and supported us throughout — exactly what we needed.”
Working alongside a school and its staff
A term of in-depth inclusion and SEMH provision work, and a whole-staff SEND & Belonging INSET.
Roger has been an inspirational support to me and our school over one term. Working with him has been instrumental in driving and transforming our approach to inclusion, SEND, and SEMH provision.
What sets Roger apart is his ability to combine deep knowledge with genuine empathy. He took the time to understand our context and helped us to build a clear, realistic and sustainable strategy that is having a real impact on the children and families we serve.
He has supported us to develop an effective system for early identification, quality first teaching, targeted interventions, and a nurturing approach to SEMH. He has worked closely with our staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure that everyone is working together with the child at the centre.
He has left us with not just an outstanding provision, but a strong foundation that will benefit our children for many years to come. I would recommend him without hesitation to any school looking to transform its approach to inclusion and SEMH provision.
Practical, thought-provoking training that leaves staff feeling more confident and equipped. Following a SEND & Belonging INSET session, staff feedback highlighted the practical, engaging and thought-provoking nature of the training.
Staff particularly valued the opportunity to reflect on their practice, consider the individual needs of children and take away realistic strategies and ideas that could be used immediately in the classroom.
‘Really informative, realistic advice that can be used within the classroom straight away.’
‘Training was engaging, relatable and very eye-opening. A good refresh at the start of term.’
‘Very clear, articulate training with fantastic quotes and video provided throughout to encourage deeper thinking.’
‘Useful to think about our next steps as a school and how we can give individualised help to our children.’
The Headteacher added: ‘Such a wonderful way to start the new academic year for my staff team, who are now fully re-centred, refocused and ready to go! I would wholeheartedly recommend Roger Billing supporting your staff in any capacity!’
The session created space for staff to think, reflect and have meaningful conversations about the children they support — informed, encouraged and equipped with practical ideas they can put into action.
