What sensory differences mean
We all take in information through our senses — sound, sight, touch, taste and smell, but also balance, movement and the feeling of our own body. Most people filter much of this without noticing. Some children notice more, some notice less, and many are a mixture.
A child who is very sensitive may find ordinary noise, light, clothing or busy places overwhelming. A child who notices less may seek out movement, pressure or strong tastes to feel settled.
If a label or a loud room genuinely hurts or overwhelms your child, their reaction makes sense — even when it seems out of proportion to you.
